Who we are

OutLines is a creative writing group focused on community and connection. We want to build a support group for queer writers and allies of all ages in Kansas City so that they can have a safe space to learn and grow as storytellers.

Though we are just starting out, we have big dreams for what OutLines can be. In the near future, we hope to begin hosting workshops and write-ins at local spaces, such as libraries, bookstores, and other places conducive to the creative process.

  • Founder

    MJ brings a sharp eye to writing. With a history in teaching and a BSE in English Ed, she has studied all of the greats and learned how to break all of their rules.

    While fantasy has her heart, MJ can also make room for a few other genres.

  • Creative Advisor

    You need honesty? You need advice? You need someone who will help you see things in a new light? Talk to Daeshawn. He is great at looking at everything from every angle. Daeshawn has a BA in English, Creative Writing and a real talent for worldbuilding.

    Daeshawn writes a little bit of everything—small and large projects, fiction and nonfiction.
